Turner Guilford County Courthouse PO Box 3008 Greensboro, NC 27402 336-412-7901 Public Announcement For Immediate Publication County Courthouse Security Personnel Will Begin Enforcement of Cell Phone Ban On February 3, 2014 On Monday, February 3, 2014, Guilford County Courthouse Security Personnel will begin enforcement of the prohibition of cell phones and other personal communications devices in the County’s courthouses in Greensboro and High Point. The ban applies to cell phones, computers, cameras and other electronic devices having the capability to photograph or record. This action has been taken by order of the Senior Resident Superior Court judge and the Chief District Court judge in the interest of justice, safety and order, to prevent the unauthorized taking of photographs of persons involved in proceedings in court, such as witnesses, jurors and attorneys, and recording of proceedings, in violation of court orders and rules, and to reduce the risk that such devices are used in a manner as to endanger others and disrupt court proceedings. The following are exempted from this prohibition: 1. An individual who displays a current identification card issued by Guilford County authorizing entry to the courthouse without passing through entrance security. 2. An Attorney who displays written permission to bring such devices into the courthouse issued by a Resident Superior Court judge, Resident District Court judge or judge of the Superior Court or District Court authorized to hold court in Guilford County. 3. An individual (such as a pro se litigant having evidence stored on such a device or a person having a particularized need for such a device) who displays written permission to bring such a device into the courthouse issued by a Resident Superior Court judge, Resident District Court judge or judge of the Superior Court or District Court authorized to hold court in Guilford County. 4. A Federal, State or local (NC) law enforcement or probation and parole officer who displays his or her credentials as such. 5. An individual who displays a current jury summons and who is entering in response to such a summons. 6. A judge, commissioner, deputy commissioner or other official of governmental agency entering the courthouse for the purpose of conducting court or an official hearing, and who displays his or her credentials as such.
